In this session, we will explore how we can use the Italian classroom to promote our students' knowledge and understanding of the structure of a language, regardless of what the linguistic repertoire of our students is. This makes the Italian classroom the ideal site for literacy development in English, too.
Session 4 looks at experiences and tools for High School.
Natasa Ciabatti & Stefania Filippi
Natasa Ciabatti is currently working as a Sessional Academic in the College of Arts and Education at Victoria University, where she trains preservice teachers in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In 2021, she was employed as Research Assistant by VU Cultural Diversity Office. From 2018 to 2020 she held the position of Head of Languages at Footscray High School, Melbourne. She has been a secondary school teacher of Languages and EAL/D since 2016.
Stefania Filippi is currently working as an Italian assistant in a Catholic Primary School in Victoria, implementing the approach TCL (teachers as co-learners). She is a former Community Psychologist in charge of the Multicultural services for immigrants in an Italian Council, including teaching of the italian as second language, planning "language and culture of origin" courses for young immigrants and a service to reduce drop-off rate and improving education results among foreign children in italian schools.
