This is an opportunity to share a success story! From its introduction to the school in 1996 Italian has grown exponentially with strong retention all the way through to year 12. We will share with you the methodology we use and the experiences we create for students which have led to the popularity of Italian in our school.
Michela Pellizon, Vera Bifano & Kristy Irwin
Vera Bifano is an Italian teacher with many years of experience in girls and boys education in both the Catholic and Independent schools sector, having taught Italian from Prep to Year 12, taught Italian to adults at Co As It and CIS and is an experienced VCAA Assessor with a passion for promoting the Italian language and culture.
She has been the Head of Italian at Scotch College for twenty years, beginning as the only teacher of Italian at the school with just over 30 students, to now a thriving Italian department with four teachers and 328 students studying Italian from Year 7 to Year 12.
Michela Pellizon is an Italian teacher and author with many years of experience in the independent sector. Michela’s experience ranges from primary to tertiary education and, for the past five years, Michela taught Italian at Scotch College. She is now collaborating with Coasit as the Education and Language Coordinator.
One of the authors of “Parliamo Italiano Insieme”, Michela is an experienced VCAA assessor with a passion for developing material, running professional development for Italian teachers and preparation courses for VCE students.
Kristy Irwin is a Languages Educator with experience across state, catholic and independent schools in England, New South Wales and Victoria. Kristy has taught in Italian, French and German in both primary and secondary settings. Prior to her current role as Chief of Staff at Scotch College, Kristy spent six years in as the Head of Languages.
