This session explores the notion of literacy and its role in the second language classroom. It aims at providing a practical tool that language teachers can use to support the development of their students’ literacy skills when dealing with a range of texts in the target language. This session is mainly for teachers in the Middle and Senior Years.
Fulvia Galigani & Giuseppina Graziano
Fulvia Galigani is the Head of Languages at Penola Catholic College, Broadmeadows, where she teaches Italian and French. A lifelong language advocate, she has worked in several primary and secondary schools in metropolitan as well as regional and rural areas in Victoria, where she has implemented VET Applied Languages and CLIL programs in Performing Arts and Humanities
Giuseppina Graziano works at Penola Catholic College as a Year 12 Italian teacher, a Year 9 CLIL Humanities teacher and an Instructional/Literacy Coach. She has a passion for teaching and learning, multilingualism, linguistics and translating and has over ten years’ experience in teaching Italian in secondary schools in Australia. She is also a Literacy Tutor for Lexis Education and a VCE Italian examiner.
