ABSTRACT
This session explores an innovative approach to Italian language learning through the integration of culturally responsive pedagogy and structured instructional design. It examines how the MARS-EARS framework (Conti) can be combined with the 8 Ways of Aboriginal Learning to enhance engagement, deepen intercultural understanding, and bring language learning to life.
Through the parallel use of these frameworks, the focus is on how they can work together in practice to create inclusive and meaningful learning experiences. Drawing on classroom contexts, the workshop highlights practical strategies such as story sharing, cultural mapping and cross-curricular connections that support authentic communication and student connection.
Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 (Italian), this approach supports the development of intercultural capability, ethical understanding, and creative and critical thinking, while strengthening students’ confidence and sense of purpose in language learning.
